The Volt meets the standard set by higher priced pants, with a tough Oxford Weave shell and lightweight mesh lining. Fully taped, fully functional and tailored for a slimmer fit, the Volt takes no short-cuts on the road to being the best value.
- 10K Waterproof - A 10,000 garment withstands over 32 feet of waterfall in one day - an acceptable level for most riders - and Bonfire's minimum standard for Men's and Women's gear. We know you're unlikely to hit a storm with over 200 inches in one day - but you gotta hope! 10k is the perfect solution for Park riders, Backyard Jibs and situations without Helicopters and avalanche beacons around. By the way - most of Bonfire's competitors use 10k for their 'expedition level' gear - that's just bullshit.
- 8K Breathability - Breathable garments allow for moisture to move off of your body, through your layered garments and escape out of the fabric of your outer shell, this is good. Without breathability and moisture movement, you're riding in wet trash bag - with water on your skin cooling the surface of your body and making you cold and clammy feeling. Creating a garment that will breathe, without letting water penetrate the surface and get you wet, is a daily challenge for Bonfire design and development. Relax, we've been blending our mix of air and water for a long time. Breathability ratings are determined by a simple test which measures how many grams of water vapor escape through a meter of fabric in 24 hours. The higher the breathability rating, the more breathable the garment. 8000mm breathability is Bonfire's minimum level of breathability, and appropriate for most riding situations. If you're an active rider, or going to be in riding situations where temperature is highly variable consider moving to a higher level of breatheability.
- Tailored Fit - Pants shaped and slimmed at the knee. Jackets cut to fit closer to your body and cleverly constructed to move.
- Lined Shell - Bonfire has four types of Jackets; Shells, Lined Shells, Fully Insulated Shells and Down Insulated. Lined Shells are non-insulated and feature a Fleece liner sewn inside the outer shell. More breathable than a fully insulated jacket, Lined Shells are lightweight with a hit of warmth. Bonfire's most versatile construction for riding in a wide range of weather.
- Fully Taped Seams -Winter and it's watery friends are nasty fiends, always on the look out for a break in to your body. First step to this cold crime - totally waterproof shell materials. Second, and equally as important, fully sealing any puncture or seam in the materials that were incurred during the construction of the garment. Bonfire fully-taped seams literally cover every hole, from every needle punch involved in the construction and production of the garment. For riders who demand total protection, fully-taped seams are a basic of the best built riding gear. Most DL2 and every DL3 Bonfire product feature fully-taped seams. Because we believe pants are an essential part of a dry day, all Bonfire pants are fully-taped.
- Belt Loop Reinforcement - Like wearing a throwback jersey on top of a new one - double layer belt loops keep you covered no matter what the score. Two layers of fabric, sewn together for dual strengthening at the loop and Snap-tite attachment point.
- Snap Tite - I'm sorry, but there's no polite way to put it, but nothing's worse than going over the bars and getting a cold pack shoved down your ass-crack. Bonfire's snap-tite system links your pant and jacket in a made-for-riding matrimony that keeps snow out of your pants and waist areas. A simple, elegant solution - available on all Bonfire pants and jackets, simply snap the powder skirt to the snap on any Bonfire pant and you're good to go. No busted zippers, no flaps, tabs or crabs (claws) - Snap-tite's been in Bonfire's line longer than most of our competitors have been riding.

How do I clean outerwear?
Note:
All of the outerwear pants and jackets that we sell, and all water repellent finishes, work at their best if the garments are kept clean. Each garment should be washed once or twice a season to keep them working properly and lasting longer, and Nikwax is the best stuff for the job.
The Nikwax two-stage treatment is the cleaning and re-proofing sequence which will restore the original performance of manufacturer’s clothing, footwear or equipment. Cleaning your outerwear with Nikwax re-proofs and maintains breathability. Using Nikwax TX Direct adds and renews water repellecy and revives breathability. Warning: Conventional detergents can seriously damage water-repellency, breathability and wicking properties.
Waterproof Test
A good test on any type of waterproof gear is to see if water beads on the surface to form fine droplets. If droplets bead, this is a sign the gear is waterproofed and is repelling water. If gear doesn’t bead but ‘wets out’, you will see darker patches where water is being absorbed through the surface. This is a sign the gear is not performing and requires the Nikwax waterproofing treatment.
Nikwax Tech Wash removes contaminants, dirt and everyday grime that masks the water-repellent coatings on waterproof items. Nikwax Tech Wash is non-detergent so it won't damage the waterproof membrain in the outerwear.
Nikwax TX Direct is to re-apply the durable water repellant (or DWR) coating to the outside of the garment. If the jacket or pants are only a year or so old you might not need to use the TX Direct too, but if you are going to use it you need to wash whatever you're going to waterproof first. This is the stuff if your pants are no longer waterproof but can't afford new ones.
Nikwax Down Wash does the same thing as the Tech Wash but it's gentler so that it doesn't ruin the puff of your favorite puffy jacket.
Nikwax Lether applies just to the outer surface of the leather that you want to waterproof. This stuff needs at least overnight to settle into the leather before use.
