When did you start snowboarding and what was your first day like?
6th grade. mtn high. super fun, ate shit alot. Tried to go as fast as I could all day. That day changed my life.
You use to dig at High Cascade. This summer you had a Signature Session. How were those experiences different?
Being a digger was amazing. for the 5 years I worked there we had a really tight crew. Some of my best friends came from those times. Curtis, Austin and I just went on a trip to Argentina and were talking about those times. We met there, now we travel together all over. It was a special thing, You become brothers with the diggers. 3 months all day everyday, that's rare. The signature deal was cool. Preston and the HCSC guys are amazing. Good people focused on snowboarding. Felt kind of like a cheat though, like I should be raking the pipe instead of hanging out with kids. different job though.
Our skate team made a trip to HCSC last summer, they were impressed with the food and the dodge ball. Did you get a chance to sample either of those things?
Fuck yeah, dodgeball is a good time for sure. I tend to eat cobra dogs for dinner and volcano cones for dessert though.
So, how long have you been riding for Exit now (...wink ...wink)?
I dont really ride for exit. They're just all the homies so I back the shop hard, best shop in the northwest for sure. I do whatever I can to support them and tell people to buy snowboard shit there. I used to work at a shop in california called active and they have supported me for the last 11 years. As long as my friends who work there continue to work there, I'll back active. It's a real family vibe for me. I'm down for active and Exit.
We got the Bryan Fox One Off Nitro board in a few weeks ago. What can you tell us about it?
Incredible snowboard. It is a 157, good all around length. Stiff enough to have a lot of pop but not too stiff to turn. Has a magical thing called CAMBER, hard to find these days.
Tell us about the graphic.
It's a telephone pole in portland by scotty's house that i thought looked cool. We made the poster, stapled it up there, took a photo. -graphic done. No computer help at all. Just a photo. real simple diy shit is always fun. I try to be real involved in the graphics every year. It's a great opportunity nitro gives us. Most companies cut pro models out. Nitro is down. they back the team as people, not just a a marketing ploy.
Don't you think some Exit stickers would really make the graphic pop (..nudge...nudge)?
Yeah man.
Whats the best thing on and off the menu at Charles'?
They've got some good root beer at that place. They are always playing good videos too. I like the burgers-food wise. If you go to govy, go into to charlies and hang. That's the real shit there. Good people, pool table, good videos, lots of mtn history.
Who are your sponsors again?
Nitro, Quiksilver, DaKine, Active, Volcano Cones
